GBP/CHF Long — buying the sterling dip into the breakout shelf
UK September CPI came in hot at 3.5%, and the money market now prices a Bank of England hike in early November almost with certainty — with decent odds of a second move in December. On the other side of the pair sits the only major central bank parked at zero: the SNB cut to 0% in June, still talks about intervention to keep the franc weak, and has an export sector that suffers every time the currency strengthens. GBP/CHF has trended higher for three months and this week probed its highest levels of the last half-year; the pullback since Tuesday has carried it back to the shelf that launched the October leg — that shelf is where we want to be a buyer, not a chaser of the high.
