NZD/USD: Kiwi Bounce Into Range Resistance After a Hawkish Fed Week — Swing Setup (Oct 16, 2026)
NZD/USD Short — fading the kiwi bounce at range resistance
This week the Federal Reserve turned openly hawkish: September producer inflation printed far above consensus, the FOMC minutes showed a unanimous vote to lift rates to 3.75–4.00% — the first hike since 2023 — with most participants flagging another move by year-end, and Governor Hammack warned that inflation expectations could force more aggressive tightening. New Zealand sits at the opposite end of the spectrum: a 2.75% OCR with hikes that fight fuel inflation amid weak growth, rising unemployment and a housing market that never recovered. The kiwi is the weakest major in price action, and its latest bounce has carried NZD/USD right back to the ceiling that contained it for a month — the retest of that ceiling is the trade.
